The Ultimate Corian Bathroom…

We recently completed this master bathroom with separate wet room and steam room for a private client in Lancashire. The project included full removal of all existing fixtures in preparation for installing the two new rooms. Below we will walk you through the different items we designed, manufactured and installed from a custom vanity unit to a ceiling with over 150 fibre optic lights…

HIMACS for the floors…

What other material could be better for a wet room floor? None. Solid Surface is the most practical, seamless and watertight material available on the market. Although an expensive product to manufacture and install the added longevity and seamlessness of the product out-ways the cost. Pre-machined panels are brought to site and installed in 700mm wide strips, all joints are reinforced with more materiel below. Depending on the sub floor structure the finished height of the flooring can be as little as 12mm, however it’s more commounly around 20mm for standard flooring. A wet room floor requires a little more depth than a standard one usually around 35mm, to keep the floor level low we can remove existing floor boards to gain an extra 18 – 25mm.

Templates of the floor are taken prior to starting the job, these are used to create the perimeter of the wetroom this information is then entered into a three dimensional computer model which is then used to machine a former using our CNC router.  We thermoform the wetroom floor so that the panels run down to the drain whether it be a standard round one or a designer style linear channel. A wet room floor will usually be made from 2 or more sections that are joined on site, using a system that we exclusively developed we are able to prevent water tracking back up walls and behind tiles.

Bench seating, door frame, bath panel and shower panel…

We can design and create any form of furniture for a bathroom or any other room for that matter. In this instance we manufactured a curved floating bench seat formed from a single piece of LG HIMACS to provide a space to sit and relax while steaming yourself. A large shower panel was produced to create a feature but also provide a hidden space for the storage of shower gel and shampoo. To finish it all off we manufactured a completely seamless door frame in between the wet room and bathroom, not only for its appearance but also because it cant be affected by moisture. The client wanted to keep their Villeroy and Boch Bath so we decided to make them a new surround from Alpine White HIMACS with an inlay of Corian that complemented the Travertine Tiles.

Star light ceiling…

Taking something from a commercial spa we suggested the idea of some feature lighting in the form of fibre optics. These are a perfect type of lighting system for a wet room due to the actual light source being kept well away from any water. A random pattern of over 150 x 1mm hole were machined into sheets of 6mm HIMACS which would intern form the ceiling. 1mm Fire optic cable was then passed through each individual hole, glued in place an trimed flush with the surface. The fibres go to a control unit with a colour changing LED bulb that is controlled by remote. We also built a custom extraction cover in a lineal design to match the shower drain, this was attached to a newly installed industrial extraction fan.

Finishing with a Sink…

And finally the sink unit, formed from many individual sections of HIMACS the sink appears to be made from a single piece. We kept the design simple to reflect the rest of the minimalistic bathroom furniture. The door is the real feature of the unit however, we integrated a thermoformed piece of Corian into the HIMACS door and shaped the material to provide an aesthetic feel.
